DR DEFNE ERKARA

I completed my primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul. With the efforts of my mother, I graduated from Private Doğuş College on a scholarship. Like many successful high school students in our country, I decided to study medical school. In 1992, I got into Çapa Medical Faculty. I graduated second in 1998. In the same year, I entered the Aesthetics, Plastic and Reconstructive department of the same university. I got my expertise in 2004. I worked hard all this time. I also saw the award. That’s why I believe in the importance of working. I still work hard. I think this is very important for myself, my family and my country.

I just prayed for my health. The rest comes to the employee anyway. I advise all my young friends to do the same: work, study, work!

I love my job very much. I do my job with love. In fact, my wife says “I am the money of your job”. By the way, I am married, I have 2 daughters and 1 cat. My wife Dr. Oğuz Erkara is my biggest supporter in my clinic. He is the author of the book 100 Historical Restaurants.

Between 2004-2014, I increased my experience by working in many clinics and hospitals. I opened my own clinic in 2014. Currently, Istanbul, Gayreteppe in domestic wanting to make my own aesthetic clinic in Turkey and abroad I serve my patients.

Sometimes I hear the question of who is the best plastic surgeon. I think the best plastic surgeon is the one who understands you best. I think all of my plastic surgeons in Istanbul have done nice surgeries. Of course, I am sure there are very good surgeons in other cities. But since I know the aesthetic environment of Istanbul, I can speak comfortably for this place. I also try to do my best. For us, surgery is a part of daily life, but for our patients, it may be an experience that can only happen once in their lives. That’s why I understand their anxiety. My job is to relieve your worries and to create a result that will make you happier. My favorite moment is to see the happy smile on faces when the bandages are removed after surgery. I hope the best result I can achieve by combining today’s technology with my experience.

My rules that I consider when performing aesthetic surgeries:

1- Do no harm first: this is the first and most important rule of medicine. I will never do it if the operation I will do is likely to harm the person, I will never use a substance that is likely to harm. In summary, I do not apply anything to my patient that I will not apply to myself, my wife or my daughters.

2- Progress: I wonder if the procedure I will do will give the person more beauty or function than before.

3- Naturalness: if my patient does not have a special request, I will not do an unnatural surgery.

4- Support: I will be with my patient for all questions and problems after the surgery.

5- Decision: my patient should be determined to have surgery I advise those who have hesitation to postpone the surgery until they are sure.

6- Trust: I start off with people who completely trust me. Because if the person does not trust his doctor, I don’t think the healing process will be positive.

My hobbies:

It doesn’t always work. One should have a vacation, and should have hobbies. I love spending time with my family the most during my holidays. Sea holidays are a must, but I like cultural travels more. I especially travel and read historical places. Istanbul is my biggest curiosity. I love the works built since the Byzantine period, especially the Byzantine churches converted into mosques and the mosaics in the works of that period.

I also love to knit in my spare time. I can’t say I’m pretentious, but it relaxes me. It is also great to produce something. I like it very much when my daughters or husband use the things I knit.

Again, we love to go to the historical restaurants in my wife’s book whenever possible. I love to take photos and write poems like any Turkish citizen
